Two Tech-Free Days in Biolley

On our very first day in San Jose as part of our in-country orientation, our group discussed the role that technology plays in our lives, and how we wanted it to impact our time in Costa Rica. We agreed that at some point during our stay, we’d go 48 hours completely tech-free. So in a mix of nerves and excitement, we’re excited to see how our experience in our host village changes while we’re able to feel and be more present.

At our group meeting tonight, we discussed some goals for the next two days:
– to be more present/immersed and have fewer distractions taking us away from time with our group
– to cut back on excessive cellphone use and to interact with people more
– to realize “we don’t need it” as constantly as we usually have it
– to work harder during our community service hours
– to have more fun with the people we’re here with

We also shared excitement about not being constantly connected to people, music, and information at all times. Although the idea of a tech fast initially seemed intimidating, overall our group is genuinely looking forward to disconnecting and immersing ourselves in the culture of the community we feel lucky to be a part of.

Sam and Kelly will continue to be in contact with the Putney Barn and we’ll continue posting on the blog to let you know how it goes!

Pura vida!
